Do you love your doorbell button? Should you? I think so. It is such a simple way to add personality to your home. The options are nearly limitless. And with a few tools and steps you’ve got yourself a new doorbell button! Let me show you how.
This project has been too long in coming. Why did it take me twelve years to get rid of this?
I’m not sure, but this retro doorbell button has a classic, timeless feel. There is something fun about the simple directive “RING”. There are so many options out there; you can certainly find one that fits your home and style.
Obviously how you will do this is determined by the exterior of your home and the doorbell button you are using. The steps I will describe are for a brick home and our specific doorbell.
Supplies & Tools needed:
- Doorbell Button
- Utility Knife
- Screw Driver
- 5/8” Masonry Bit
- Wire Strippers
- Wall Anchors
- Turn off the breaker.
- Remove the old doorbell button.
This was easy and I was so excited to do it. There was silicone caulk around the old one, so I scored it, removed the screws and pulled.
- Disconnect the wires from the old doorbell button.
- Clean up the area.
- Use the Masonry Bit to drill the hole for the new doorbell button to fit into.
I taped the wires out of the way.
- Set it in place and mark the spots to pre-drill for the screws.
- Drill pilot hole for mounting screws.
We decided to also use a wall anchor.
- Attach wiring to doorbell button.
Turn the breaker on and test doorbell before attaching to the wall.
- Mount to wall and turn breaker on.
